SB 50 Fails on the Senate Floor
SB 50 has gone down to defeat on the Senate floor.
The Federation is grateful to our Senator, Senator Henry Stern, for holding firm with a NO vote on SB 50, despite intense pressure from special interests outside of our district, including from a few misguided enviros who either can’t read the bill or who purposefully ignored the hidden exception that promoted urban sprawl in high fire severity zones.

On March 3rd, voters in the city of Calabasas will be voting on Measure N, the Avalon Initiative.
This initiative, if passed, will allow a developer to start development of 161 additional apartment units at the location off Las Virgenes & Lost Hills roads, south of AE Wright Middle School. He never brought his project to the City for review, or took actions to follow the development process that every other builder is required to do.
Continue readingMalibu Adopts LCP Pesticide Ban – Syncs up to SMMLCP
Finally on Monday, Dec. 9, after 5 years of advocating, Malibu activists were successful in beating back Malibu City Attorney Christi Hogin to convince the City Council to vote 5-0 to ban pesticides. Their proposed LCP language amendment (thanks to Poison Free Malibu) syncs up with Los Angeles County’s SMMLCP ban which was adopted in 2014. Now it needs to be ratified by the California Coastal Commission — which already has weighed in on support as well as approving LA County’s language. Malibu is a critical piece of the puzzle in trying to save our wildlife from poisons — they are the only city encompassed totally in the National Recreation Area. Thank you to all. It’s a very big win for wildlife!!
