Developers Run Amok in Rural Areas & Neighborhoods

As residents in Calabasas’ rural neighborhoods know, empowered developers, don’t feel obliged to abide by the laws. And, on this site, 23501 Summit Drive, they are repeat offenders, as seen here again in this photo on Dec. 29, 2016 — this time with a power saw cutting the heritage oak tree despite conditions imposed by the City of Calabasas to the contrary and in violation of their permit. Add this to their several other violations…but they just keep on going…

Developers intentionally running amok are not limited to Calabasas. And, neither are the people who make a career and a lot of money out of advising or helping them game the system or circumvent land-use laws throughout California – (certain developer attorneys, expediters, etc.).

Strong, smart land-use laws – enforcement, and real penalties for developers intentionally violating the rules are key to mitigating the problem. For example, new policy in the SMMLCP for NOV’s and other violations can reap a five year development moratorium on the property being developed…
